Update from Pastor Dan - Friday May 22, 2020

Sunday May 24, 2020 – Once again, we will have limited ‘in-person’ worship. Our ‘in-person’ worship is intended to allow folks who cannot connect through the internet/Facebook to participate in worship.  Everyone who can participate effectively on-line is strongly encouraged to stay home and join us ‘live’ through Facebook.  However, if you’ve had a rough week, find yourself struggling because you are feeling isolated and lonely, or simply need to worship in-person, please do so.  If you plan to participate ‘in-person,’ please call or text pastor dan at 859-806-9996 or email him at dbrown@cmeronumc.org.   A recording of worship will be broadcast on KMRN (1360AM / 99.3 FM) at 11:15. The town hall will not be broadcast on the radio.

Those who choose to participate ‘in-person’ are asked to commit to the following practices:

If you have any questions or would like to chat with me, please call 859-806-9996.

Update from Pastor Dan - Friday May 15, 2020

Don’t forget this Sunday, May 17th immediately following worship, we will have a Town Hall gathering to share our short- and long-term plans for CUMC’s worship and ministries as well as the rationale behind our plans.  This will give folks an opportunity to ask questions and to provide feedback.  Both worship and the town hall will be broadcast live via Facebook.  A recording of worship will be broadcast on KMRN (1360AM / 99.3 FM) at 11:15.  The town hall will not be broadcast on the radio.

In order for the town hall gathering to be accessible to as many people as possible, we will have limited ‘in-person’ worship (followed by the town hall gathering).  The goal is to allow folks who cannot connect through the internet/Facebook to participate.  Everyone who can participate effectively on-line is strongly encouraged to stay home and join us ‘live’ through Facebook.

Those who choose to participate ‘in-person’ are asked to commit to the following practices:
  • If you plan to participate ‘in-person,’ please call or text pastor dan at 859-806-9996 or email him at dbrown@cmeronumc.org.
  • If you have underlying health issues that put you in a high-risk category, please consider staying home and contacting pastor Dan to discuss other ways you might participate.
  • No hugs, handshakes, or fist pumps!
  • Maintain at least six-foot physical distancing from anyone who is not a part of your household.  Chairs will be arranged to allow families to sit together while maintaining at least six feet between family units.
  • Folks are strongly encouraged to wear their favorite ‘mask.’  We will have a few masks available for folks who do not have one.  I will be wearing my ‘rocket mask!’
  • If you are sick on the 17th, please stay at home.
If you have any questions or would like to chat with me, please call 859-806-9996.

Update from Pastor Dan - May 9, 2020

This Sunday, May 10 you can participate in worship at 10 AM 'live on Facebook' or you can listen to a recording of worship on KMRN (1360 or 99.3). There will be no 'in-person' worship..

The message will challenge us to a closer look at another Christian platitude – “God won’t give us more than we can handle.”   We will look at a few biblical characters and their response to the troubles they encountered.  We will also explore how Scripture challenges us to respond to difficult times and circumstances.

Survey Results:
Thanks to those who responded to last week’s survey.  A little less than half of the respondents indicated they are ‘headed to the car and have been ready to worship in-person for weeks.’  About the same number of folks responded, ‘Check back with me in July – I’m not ready to participate in large gatherings yet.’  A few folks indicated that ‘it depends on the precautions we take’ or they are undecided.

Town Hall Gathering:
Over the last 2-3 weeks, I have been agonizing over when and how to faithfully re-launch 'in-person' worship. I have also struggled with how to best communicate insights, thoughts, and ideas for moving forward.  After reviewing survey results, meeting with the Servant Leadership Team, talking with folks from the congregation and community, hearing the insights of our staff, and discerning the Spirit's guidance -- this is what I propose:

On May 17th, immediately following worship, we will have a Town Hall Meeting to share our short- and long-term plans for CUMC’s worship and ministries.  This will give folks an opportunity to ask questions and to provide feedback.

In order for the town hall discussion to be accessible to as many people as possible, we will have limited ‘in-person’ worship on May 17th immediately followed by the town hall gathering.  Both worship and the town hall will be broadcast ‘live’ on Facebook.  (Note the town hall will not be broadcast on the radio).  To do this as safely as possible, I am encouraging everyone who is able to participate effectively on-line, to stay home and join us ‘live on-line.’  I’d prefer to limit ‘in-person’ participants to the folks who have unreliable internet or have no internet at all (and anyone providing transportation and/or care for these folks).  Those who participate ‘in-person’ are asked to commit to the following practices:
Call me at 859-806-9996 or call the office at 816-632-3461 if you plan to participate ‘in-person’ on the May 17th.
If you have underlying health issues that put you in a high-risk category please consider staying home and contacting pastor dan to discuss other ways you might participate.
No hugs, handshakes, or fist pumps!
Maintain at least six-foot physical distancing from anyone who is not a part of your household.  Chairs will be arranged to allow families to sit together while maintaining at least six feet between family units.
Folks are strongly encouraged to wear their favorite mask.  We will have a few masks available for folks who do not have one.  I’ll be wearing my ‘rocket mask!’
If you are sick on the 17th, please stay at home.

Update from Pastor Dan - May 1, 2020

This Sunday we will be participating in Holy Communion – so everyone is encouraged to have bread and juice (or water) on hand.

I need your help – as we begin to plan for re-launching ‘in-person’ worship, I’d like to hear your thoughts and attitudes about returning to worship – so please email us with one of the following comments (or share in your own words) at office@cameronumc.org :

  • I’m headed to the car – I’ve been ready to worship in-person for weeks
  • Check back with me in July – I’m not ready to participate in large gatherings yet
  • It depends – what precautions will be in place
  • I don’t know – one day I’m ready and the next one I’m not

On May 4, the ‘stay at home’ guidelines will be replaced with new guidelines for re-opening businesses and restarting the economy.  While our tendency may be to ‘get back to normal’ as soon as possible.  Health officials are urging folks to continue practicing physical distancing, to limit social gatherings (both size and frequency), to avoid physical contact with non-family members, and to avoid touching our faces and to wash our hands frequently.

Here are my current thoughts as we begin to plan to re-launch ‘in-person’ worship:

  • 'Online only' worship will likely continue through at least May 10.
  • When we re-launch ‘in-person’ worship, the sanctuary will look much different and we will modify some of our practices.  We will greet each other with a smile and a wave rather than a handshake or hug.  Everyone will be asked to be respectful of others by practicing safe distancing. Chairs will be arranged to allow families to sit together while maintaining safe distance between families.  In the short-term, we will not be offering nursery care.  These are a few of the changes you can expect.
  • When we do restart 'in-person' worship, it is likely to be on a limited basis (we’ll start by opening in-person worship to folks who cannot participate in ‘on-line’ worship or who have a poor internet connection).  The earliest this would happen is May 17th or 24th.
  • Through this transition and beyond, we will offer our worship ‘live’ on Facebook and will continue to engage and interact with our online community.

This Sunday’s worship

  • Again this Sunday worship will be ‘live’ on Facebook at 10:00AM. Be sure to invite your friends to join us. THIS WEEK -- We will take a closer look at another Christian platitude – “God has a plan.” We explore the context in which we use this phrase and consider its validity and usefulness. And you will learn God’s ‘plan’ for your life!
  • If you’re unable to join us online for live on Facebook, tune in to KMRN 1360 AM or 99.3 FM at 11:15 for an audio recording of our worship. You can also access video and audio recordings of our worship through our website (www.cameronumc.org).
  • Lyrics to Sunday's songs, bulletin, and communion liturgy will be posted on our website under the "Church at Home" tab.

As always, if you have any questions or would like to chat with me, please call 859-806-9996.
